Flights of Fancy

Just a quick post--so much has been happening here, with house guests today, and my dear friend home for a week from India, a visit to my parents, and apartment projects, and everything else. Life is so hectic, sometimes you just want to take flight!



I took a little time tonight to go through some photos, and I came upon these. I am always trying to capture birds in flight, and I get so excited when I actually get a good shot!



Now when I look at them I can just imagine how peaceful and amazing it must be to be able to glide through the air.

In Good Form

I am so excited! I won the instructables.com Mother's Day Contest and my prize is a new Singer Dress Form. Just in time to start work on my wedding dress. (I know I promised lots of interesting posts about that, but I am still going insane just trying to find a location!)


My mother, who has really impressed me over the past two years with her rapid acquisition of computer and internet skills, recently announced that she was going to burn some cds to listen to in the car! I immediately thought of getting her a cd wallet for Mother's Day, but they were all so boring. So I made her this one instead.

Turtle Haven

While we were in Florida we went to visit the The Loggerhead Marinelife Center, an ocean conservation organization and sea turtle hospital at Juno Beach.

Cullen had his fin amputated but is doing fine now!

We had seen several turtle nesting areas on the beach that had been taped off and bore signs of warning to intruders.

These eggs are in an exhibit at the Center.

The LMC is responsible for finding those nests and protecting them. They also find turtles that are hurt or sick and treat them at their facility. We saw about seven turtles in various stages of recovery on our visit. The staff is very small, but with the help of volunteers they forge on in their mission: To promote conservation of Florida’s coastal ecosystem through education, research, and rehabilitation, with a special focus on threatened and endangered sea turtles.

This is a great place to visit with the family. You will see the turtle patients, talk with staff and perhaps see them treating the turtles, and learn a lot in the learning exhibit. It is a small facility so it will not be overwhelming for younger children.

There is also an Adopt-a-Turtle program, special events and nighttime turtle walks, and story hours at the center. You can also hold a birthday party there!
